Trenched Up-Female Edition

Spring is finally in, in the interest of staying dry and fly the belted trench is an absolute must for the season. Harkening back to Jackie Onassis' too together past this look is now fitted, belted and fashion forward. The trench can be your ticket to a fashionable look; however, this polished, classic piece still has some important issues to consider...

1. Color: This look is about effortless poise. Because this look pays homage to Jackie O's springtime swag think conservative when considering the color. Neutral tones like khakis, black, gray and slate are my personal preference. You can play with solid colors and patterned looks but please be sure to consider Length (long patterned pieces may work against the slimming effect trenches can provide). Also, shy away from metallics and excessive sheen, they cheapen the look.

2. Length: You know what works for you. When considering short and long looks consider your height. I'm a tall girl so I go for three quarter length looks because they hang the best on me, shorter girls have more freedom to play with cropped options.

3. Structure: The most important consideration one has to make is the structure of the trench. When considering belted versus non-belted you must consider the shape of the trench on you. A long unbelted trench coat can look cumbersome, belting this look defines your waist and slims the look. Any trench that hangs below the belt line can and should be belted. Get it ladies!
